Talk to Rotary club

Posted onPosted on 13th Mar

Karen Wakefield, Ollerton and Boughton town clerk, gave a fascinating insight into the inner workings of her job at a meeting of Sherwood Forest Rotary Club.

She is pictured with the president of the club, Malcolm Bevan, holding the book that she always has at meetings. It relates to the rules and legislation governing town and parish councils that councillors must adhere to when making decisions.

The duck seen on Malcolm’s shoulder sits on her desk because the opening line of enquiries from members of the public usually begins with, “Is that the council, duck!”

Karen related some of the funnier requests for help, including:
‘The toilet is blocked and we cannot bath the children until it is cleared’ and ‘Our lavatory seat is broken in half and it is now in three pieces’.
