Take on 5k for Rainbows without leaving the house

Posted onPosted on 23rd Jan

People in the East Midlands can now take on a virtual 5k challenge for Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People without even leaving the house.

The charity is encouraging supporters to do its Virtual 5k their own way, whether that’s running, skipping, hopping, dancing or swimming the distance. It can be a dog walk, a run or even a dance in the kitchen.

Everyone who takes part in the challenge, which must be completed by the end of March, will receive a medal. Entry is £20.

Nancy Lillington, Rainbows’ Events Manager, said: “We want our supporters to get involved and help spread the smiles as they complete the miles. Whether this is done in one go or over multiple days is completely up to each individual.

“The medals have kindly been donated to us, so 100% of entry fees will go towards the vital work we do here at the hospice, supporting children and young people with a life-limiting condition and their families. We’d love it, if people would also raise money while taking part in the challenge too.

“For those who raise £100 or more, we’ll send you one of our running tops which you can wear with pride while taking part.”

Simon Davies, partner at Makalu Agency in Leicestershire, has donated the medals. He said: “Rainbows is a charity that’s close to my heart. Ever since the first time I visited the hospice and witnessed the incredible work the team provide, caring for children with life-limiting conditions, I’ve wanted to do as much as I possibly could to help.

“It really is a truly unique place that’s full of expertise, kindness and love. It’s vital that we all help to ensure Rainbows can continue to provide its invaluable service to the families in our local communities.

“The Virtual 5K is a chance for absolutely everyone to get involved, challenge themselves a little bit, have some fun and of course raise some money for a truly fantastic cause.”
