The outgoing president of the Inner Wheel Club of Kirkby, Jacqui Hampshire right), handed over her chain of office to the new president, Susan Smailes, but at a social distance — the distance of two long-handled umbrellas!

After months of lockdown, a few members of the club were delighted to meet in Susan’s garden to witness the handover.

Contact throughout the pandemic had been maintained by daily messaging on WhatsApp and occasional Zoom meetings, but members said was no substitute for a face-to-face chat.
