Mountain climb in aid of hospice

Posted onPosted on 16th Jul

A Newark family is to tackle a mountainous climb in aid of a hospice.

Laura Soar, Chris King, Katy Tomlin, and Rachel and Daniel Howard will be climbing Mount Snowden (the Llanberis Path) on 24th August to raise funds for – and say thank you to – Beaumond House Community Hospice, Newark.

Laura said on a JustGiving page set up to allow people to make a donation: “For anybody that knows me and my family, you will know how much Beaumond House is doing for our mum.

“Back in 2014 she was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, which is a lung disease that occurs when lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred. There is no cure and the scar tissue now covers a large percentage of mum’s lung tissue, making it impossible to breath without constant oxygen.

“Beaumond House have been there for mum every step of the way, from day care where she made many friends to respite care when she just needed a little extra attention and now palliative care.

“On Saturday, 24th August, myself, Chris, Kate, Rachel & Daniel will be climbing Mount Snowden (the Llanberis path) to raise some money for Beaumond House, which is in desperate need of donations over this Covid-19 period.”

Beaumond House Community Hospice is a registered charity committed to providing supportive palliative care to patients and their families living in Newark and district. It has four in-patient beds for people with palliative care needs, a day therapy service as well as a Hospice at Home service providing compassionate support.

The hospice said: “We would like to wish Laura, Chris, Kate, Rachel & Daniel the best of luck for climbing Mount Snowden (the Llanberis Path) in aid of Beaumond House and, of course, a huge thank you!

“Unfortunately our organised trip to Snowden this August had to be cancelled, so Laura and her family have taken it upon themselves to take on the climb themselves to fundraise for Beaumond House.”
