National award hope for Palace panto star

Posted onPosted on 14th Mar

The star of the Palace Theatre’s 2021 Dick Whittington pantomime has been nominated at the national Pantomime Awards.

Katherine Glover played the title role in last year’s festive spectacular, wowing audiences with her thigh-slapping energy, stunning singing voice and comedy chops.

She has been nominated for the Barbara Windsor Award for Best Principal Boy. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London’s West End, to be hosted by panto icon Christopher Biggins on Tuesday, 19th April.

The show, and Katherine’s performance, received hugely positive feedback from local audiences. It was the first in a new partnership between the Palace Theatre and Jordan Productions, a specialist pantomime production company that will celebrate its 30th year in 2023.

Theatre manager Carys Coulton-Jones said: “We’re absolutely thrilled for Katherine. She was brilliant as Dick and truly helped our first show with panto partners Jordan Productions to soar.

“It’s a real reflection of the amazing quality of their productions and I’m already looking forward to being wowed by this year’s Cinderella.

“I’m also personally delighted that the award was for principal boy, a tradition that’s an important part of panto heritage and one we’re passionate about keeping alive in our historic theatre.”

Tickets for this year’s Cinderella are on sale now with the lowest early bird prices available for bookings made before Easter.

Seats can be secured by calling 01636 655755 from Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm or online at www.palacenewark.com.
