Fun returning to castle grounds

Posted onPosted on 25th Apr

The grounds of Newark Castle will again be filled with entertainment this summer as Palace at the Castle returns.

After a successful debut season last year, the Palace Theatre team has planned a programme of shows for all ages.

Lovers of period drama will be delighted that the first show is set to be Pride And Prejudice on Saturday, 23rd July, while the literary trend continues with Jekyll And& Hyde on Thursday, 28th July.

There are classic plays to savour too with The Recruiting Officer on Tuesday, 2nd August and Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing on Thursday, 11th August.

Families can enjoy fun in the sun as well with much-loved adventure The Jungle Book on Wednesday, 17th August and classic fantastical caper Alice In Wonderland on Tuesday, 23rd August.

The programme will play summer out with a riotous bang on Friday, 2nd September as Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance (above) closes the shows.

Palace Theatre manager Carys Coulton-Jones said: “We had some wonderful feedback from visitors last year who got to enjoy unforgettable entertainment with the spectacular background of Newark Castle, and were lucky enough to be blessed with gorgeous weather too.

“Our team have done a brilliant job of putting together another great programme this summer with something for everyone from couples to groups of friends and families, and I personally can’t wait to see more smiling faces relishing these special experiences this year.”

Tickets for all of the Palace at the Castle shows are on sale now at www.palacenewark.com/palaceatthecastle or by calling 01636 655755 from Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm.
