Chance for youngsters to get creative in holidays

Posted onPosted on 20th Jun

Free workshops for teenagers who love performing will take place in Rainworth this summer.

Open Doors, a National Portfolio Organisation funded by Arts Council England, has organised two summer programmes for Newark and Sherwood District Council, one that centres on drama and one on dance.

World Stage, a theatre project led by experienced actor and drama facilitator Claire Finn, and Open Doors creative arts officer Milly Lawson, will take place evey Monday, from 29th July, at Rainworth Village Hall. Sessions, which run from 10m to 1pm, will explore worldwide theatrical styles throughout history and enable participants to shed light on contemporary issues.

Young people interested in dance can expand their range of styles by discovering Taniec, a new choreography that blends traditional rhythms of Polish folk dance with urban hip hop flair, at Newark Academy from Monday 12th to Friday, 16th August, 10am to 2.30pm.

Both workshop programmes will offer the chance to achieve a Trinity College London Arts Award. Places are free for 12 to 18 year-olds from Newark and Sherwood, but must be booked in advance at palacenewark.com or by calling 01636 655755.
