The fundraising team at Beaumond House Hospice Care will be teaming up to take part in the hospice’s new virtual stair climb challenge —‘Moving Mountains For Beaumond House.
Running throughout March, the campaign aims to back the The Hospice at Home team at the Newark hospice.
They ‘move mountains every day to support patients in their own homes’ and the Moving Mountains challenge involves climbing flights of stairs equivalent to the height of a mountain of your choice to show support for and raise funds to support this important service.
There is no charge to take part, the team just asks you to raise what you can to support their hospice at home service.
In the last financial year, Beaumond House received £531,000 towards the cost of delivering its in-patient, wellbeing and hospice at home services commissioned through the End of Life Together Alliance (funded from the Integrated Care System), which contributes to its overall operating costs. This means that it needs to raise an additional £1,000,000 a year to ensure it can continue to offer services.
The fundraising team has committed to climbing the equivalent of the height of Mount Everest, a total of 8,848 metres, on the stairs in the office on Lime Grove — 3,400 ascents of the stairs between them in March.
A Facebook fundraiser page has been set up for those who wish to donate.
The Gym Group Newark, on Northern Road, has signed up to take part in the challenge and is looking to build a team comprising of both staff and gym members for their virtual trek, something they aim to do in record time.
Matt Colbourne, events and community fundraiser at the hospice, added: “We’d love to see more businesses and teams take part but anyone, whether on your own or as part of a group, can get involved. Just choose a mountain that you feel is an achievable challenge and get climbing.. Set-up a Facebook fundraiser and start moving mountains for your local hospice.”
