Magnus C of E Academy students in Newark are celebrating another strong set of GCSE results, with the school recording its best outcomes in the last 10 years and 15 per cent improvements in the highest grades for English and maths.

The majority of subjects outperformed last year’s results with many at or above the national average for 2025.

Principal Anna Martin said: “We are absolutely delighted with this year’s GCSE results, which are the strongest we have seen in recent history. It is particularly pleasing to see so many students achieving the very highest grades, while the vast majority of our students secured qualifications across all of their subjects.

“These outcomes are a testament to the hard work, determination and resilience shown by our young people throughout their studies. They also reflect the unwavering commitment of our staff and the culture of high expectations that underpins everything we do. We are incredibly proud of what our students have achieved and look forward to seeing them build on this success as they move on to the next stage of their education and future careers.”

There were many notable results at Magnus C of E Academy including:

Beatrice Cullen achieved three grade 9s and four grade 8s.
Sam Kirtley achieved three grade 9s and five grade 8s.
Kara Eurich achieved two grade 9s, one grade 8, three grade 7s and two grade 6s.
Isaac Cheng achieved one grade 9, three grade 8s, two grade 7s and two grade 6s.
Jacob Mulholland achieved three grade 8s, two grade 7s and two grade 6s.
Bailey Coggan achieved one grade 9, three grade 8s and three grade 7s.

Kara Eurich achieved 9 history, Distinction Star sport, 7 and 7 double science, 6
french, business 6, English literature 7, maths 6 and English language 8.

She said: “I am very pleased with my results, especially with my 9 in history and Level 2 Distinction Star in sport. I’m excited to stay here at Magnus to study biology, chemistry, and maths. My goal is to go to university to study medicine in the future and be an orthopaedic doctor.”

Sam Kirtley achieved a grade 9 and 8 in science double award, 8 in French, business 6,
English literature 8, maths 8, English language 9, and Level 2 Distinction Star in
performing arts.

Sam said: “I am so pleased. I’ve been freaking out over the last few days, but I can breathe now. I plan to go to Lincoln to study level 3 performing arts. My plans in the future are to be in performance. Whether that’s behind or on the stage, I want to be in it and help other people get into it. Magnus really has felt like a family and I’m very sad to be leaving, but it’s what I need to do, to get to where I need to be in the future.”
