It wasn’t just Cinderella’s carriage flying high this Christmas as ticket sales for the Palace Theatre Newark’s panto reached a new record.
Almost 18,000 people enjoyed the sparking spectacle, beating the theatre’s previous bestseller, 2017’s Beauty and the Beast, by hundreds of tickets.
Coun Rhona Holloway, portfolio holder for Economic Development and Visitors at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “These record sales, especially amidst of the rising cost of living, were certainly a surprise to the team but show how important and valued the Palace panto is to local families as a way to spend time together and make special memories over the festive season.
“I was lucky enough to enjoy this excellent show myself and can’t wait to be back for the next one later this year!”
For the second successive year running, the Palace also took part in the Government’s Holiday Activities and Food Programme, working with Nottinghamshire County Council to offer more than 100 tickets to low-income families.
Cinderella was the Palace’s second show with new panto partners Jordan Productions, who will be back from Friday 8th to Sunday, 31st December with festive fairytale Snow White.
Chris Jordan, managing director of Jordan Productions, said: “We’re ecstatic that so many families have been entertained by Cinderella this Christmas. We’re looking forward to continuing on this upwards trajectory, working together with the Palace Theatre Newark to ensure that Snow White is even bigger and better than before; after all, it is the fairest panto of them all!”
