Newark charity among beneficiaries from Star Trust donations

Posted onPosted on 27th Jan

The Star Trust charity has helped six East Midlands causes through its latest donations.

The trust was set up six years ago to raise money for small to medium-sized charities in the region — and with no overheads, every penny it raises is passed on.

To date it has donated almost £650,000 to 73 charities.

After raising £95,000 at its 2019 annual fundraising ball — held at Stapleford Park and sponsored by Porsche Leicester — the Star Trust handed over six cheques totalling nearly £60,000 (above).

Among the beneficiaries was PASIC — the Parents Association for Seriously Ill Children — which received £10,000 for its children oncology day care charity work. PASIC helps children across Mansfield and Ashfield as well as further afield in Nottinghamshire.

A total of £22,680 was presented to Newark-based child brain tumour charity The Sam White Legacy; £5,949 to Cerebral Palsy Sport; £5,000 to family counselling service We R Here; £10,766 to Nottinghamshire Clubs for Young People; and £5,000 to housing charity Framework.

Steve Hampson, who heads the Star Trust, said: “As an East Midlands charity with East Midlands committee members and patrons, we endeavour to support grass roots charity organisations that wouldn’t normally receive the grants they need to support their endeavours — and often do not get the recognition and awareness they so desperately need.

“This is where Star Trust comes in. We are here to fundraise and take these funds and pump cash into needy organisations which are doing fantastic work across the East Midlands.”

At a cheque presentation at Porsche Leicester, which is a supporter of the trust, the six charities received their monies. Star Trust annual sponsors Anthony Clark, of Alternative Advisor, and Sarah and Mark Menhennet, of Answer-4-U, were also at the event.

Louise Towse, of PASIC, said: “We will now be able to fund a family support worker at the Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, where we work with families of young people with cancer. This donation means so much to us.”

Throughout the year the Star Trust hosts a variety of events to help fundraise for a wide range of charities in the East Midlands and in 2020 it will hold three events — Old Bags and Glad Rags, Supercar Driving Day and the Annual Ball.

Steve added: “Our events are always greatly supported by the East Midlands business community and sponsored by local companies and we can’t thank them enough for all of their support and generosity. Thank you also to our members and patrons for all of your hard work and efforts and I look forward to the year ahead.”
