Red Rose Care Community in Farndon welcomed families and friends to its annual Seaside Day celebration, transforming the care home’s Brockton garden into a nostalgic seaside retreat.
The event began with a traditional fish and chips lunch, followed by an afternoon of coastal-themed entertainment.
This year’s celebration featured an array of beach-themed activities designed to engage all generations.
The popular ‘pin-the-tail on the mermaid’ game returned alongside a hook-a-duck stall, while paddling pools provided refreshing relief from the summer heat.
Children could blow bubbles and build sandcastles in specially-created sandpits, drawing admiring crowds of residents and family members.
A highlight of the afternoon was a visit by Cupcake the pony, courtesy of Pet a Pony.
“I always enjoy days like this,” said Tony, whose wife is a resident at the care home. “It’s so good for the residents.
“It gives everyone a chance to see new things and meet other people, instead of sitting in their chairs inside. They’re out and actively enjoying new experiences.”
Activities co-ordinators Charlotte and Dwayne said: “In the weeks leading up to Seaside Day, we built excitement throughout the community with arts and crafts sessions, seaside bingo, and hoop games.
“We decorated all the windows to brighten up the day and create that special seaside atmosphere.
“What makes this event so meaningful is that we’re able to bring all the loved ones together and provide opportunities to build new memories.
“Many of our residents are no longer able to visit the seaside themselves, so it’s a real privilege to have the support to create these special days. There’s nothing quite like seeing three generations come together — the joy on everyone’s faces makes all our planning efforts worthwhile.”
General manager Joanne Brown added: “Seaside Day was an absolute triumph — the laughter and joy from residents and families filled every corner of our garden.
“Events like this are at the heart of what we do at Red Rose Care Community, and these moments truly showcase the strong sense of community spirit we’ve built here.”
