Newark and Sherwood District Council has signed an agreement with Severns (Ollerton) Limited to convert Ollerton Hall into residential apartments.

The agreement comes after an open market process, which resulted in identifying a preferred developer. The company director, Adam Cavell, has prior experience of converting heritage buildings both within the county and nationally.

Ollerton Hall is a Grade II* listed former country house located in Ollerton village, dating back to around 1700. The building has been vacant for many years, having been brought back into the ownership of Newark and Sherwood District Council after it was repurchased in 2016.

The developer is now required to submit a planning application for the conversion. This will include a consultation with the local community, which will outline the exact plans for the premises. The planning application is expected to be submitted in the summer.

Subject to approval of planning permission, Severns (Ollerton) Limited will be required to build out the scheme under a lease agreement with the district council. The purchase of Ollerton Hall will only take place when works are complete to the satisfaction of the council.

Coun David Lloyd, leader of the district council, said: “Ollerton Hall is an important historic landmark, which had sadly suffered a number of false starts over the years and remains a vacant gem in need of attention. The innovative and collaborative approach we are now taking to bring the building back into long-term use will mean that it will once again make an important contribution to the area.”

Coun Neal Mitchell, Newark and Sherwood District Councillor for Ollerton, said: “Ollerton Hall is such an important part of the heritage of Ollerton, and it is wonderful that it will finally be brought back into use.

“From the outset it has been a clear priority for everyone that the restoration must be sympathetic to the surrounding village, and I am excited to see the transformation plans that will secure the future of this iconic building.”
