Newark has been chosen to receive up to £25m from the government-awarded Towns Fund – and Newark and Sherwood District Council leader Coun David Lloyd will be speaking on a special Facebook Live stream this Friday to talk about it and other town centre issues.

Detailed proposals are being drawn up with the local community, businesses and local leaders, to help transform the town’s economic growth prospects with a focus on improved transport, heritage, skills and culture.

The ambition is to ‘re-imagine’ the town, maximise the positives of its independent shops, tourist offer and assets and its historic centre and architecture.

Proposals will aim to address issues of retail decline, increasing footfall in the town centre, improving skills and incomes and providing new residential and family offers to the town.

Councillor Lloyd said: “We are working on a regeneration programme which will match our vision and ambition to revamp and breathe new life into Newark town centre.

“We are looking forward to shaping our proposals with residents, businesses, and partners in line with the central government’s new Towns Fund and other funding packages, to re-imagine the town’s future development and this Facebook Live streaming will look at how we will aim to to do this.”

Newark was chosen as one of 100 places across the UK to have been invited to develop proposals for the Towns Fund initiative.

This is the first streaming of four Facebook Live events that have been scheduled for the coming months, addressing issues that have been raised through the council’s Residents’ Survey.

People can ask questions in advance and throughout the programme either via the council’s Facebook page or email pr@nsdc.info.

Follow the discussion at https://www.facebook.com/NSDCouncil/ from 12.30-1.30pm this Friday, January 31.
