Hospitals trust thanks volunteers

Posted onPosted on 31st May

Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust will be celebrating the difference volunteers make to the organisation and thanking them for their dedication during this year’s Volunteers’ Week, which runs from 1-7 June.

On Wednesday, 1 June, where chief executive Paul Robinson will officially launch Volunteers’ Week at 9am in the Daffodil Café at King’s Mill Hospital, Sutton. Volunteers will be presented with a thank-you gift and recognition booklet while on duty during the week, and two volunteers will be presented with long service awards.

Tracey Brassington, community involvement manager, said: “We are truly blessed with an amazing team of people who, working together, offer invaluable support to enhance the care of our local community in our hospitals.  It is an honour for the Community Involvement Team to work alongside our volunteers.

“I would like all of our volunteers to know how thankful we are for their time, and what a huge difference they make to the day-to-day running of the trust.”

Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust currently has a total of 429 volunteers providing support to help keep the hospitals running, with 223 volunteers at King’s Mill and 206 at Newark Hospital.

An average of 874 hours are worked by volunteers each week, which equates to 45,448 hours per year – the equivalent of 21 full-time positions.

There are 24 volunteer roles at the trust, which range from covering the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit, wards and clinics, to working on teabars, helpdesk, Community Hub and Millside Radio.

The trust is also supporting the Together coalition national Thank You Day on Sunday, 5 June. The day calls on people across the country to come together to celebrate the Queen for 70 years of service, and to say a big thank you to friends, family, colleagues, communities and organisations who have worked hard over the last 12 months.
