Nottinghamshire County Council says it will be putting residents’ views at the front and centre of its new ambitious Council Plan that will set out its priorities for the next four years.

This summer, all Nottinghamshire residents will be invited to have their say on how council services should be prioritised and delivered, both in the short and long-term.

Every resident will be able to take part through a survey that will be available online or by collecting a printed copy from any of Nottinghamshire’s 60 libraries.

Coun Ben Bradley MP, leader of the council, said: “The pandemic has been a hugely challenging time for everyone, including Nottinghamshire residents, families and businesses. This engagement will provide a great opportunity for people to share how it has most impacted on them and their communities and what they think the council’s focus should be as we recover and work towards a brighter future for our county.

“We want to ensure the Council Plan is ambitious and sets out how the council can best work with its partners to deliver high-quality services that are efficient and best respond to needs and aspirations of our residents.

“Recently the council has made a major commitment to two of the issues that we know residents feel most strongly about, firstly by setting up a cross-party Highways Review Panel to review how we can best keep our roads in a good state of repair and secondly by declaring a climate emergency and thereby solidifying our commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. But we want to do much more, and we want the Council Plan to be the blueprint for how we can achieve and deliver on this.”

Coun Bruce Laughton, deputy leader, added: “The pandemic has required the council to quickly adopt new ways of working to ensure we could continue delivering high quality services whilst protecting our vulnerable residents. During this time we have learnt many lessons, discovering many benefits to this new way of working and these will be carried through into our future planning, but again we need to make sure it’s focused on delivering the outcomes which the people of Nottinghamshire most want to see.”

Findings from all the research will help inform and shape the Council Plan, which will considered by the council in early Autumn 2021.
