Golf day tops £2,000 for Rotary club

The Rotary Club of Sherwood Forest’s Charity Golf Day at Rufford Park Golf and Country Club saw 17 teams enjoy good weather and play on a course in great condition.

The club thanked Jones & Co Solicitors, who continue to support the event. With their help, this year’s gold day raised more than £2,000 for local projects.

President Dave Dennis said: “We would also like to thank all the local businesses and individuals who sponsored holes on the day and those who donated to our raffle. It was truly a community effort from which local projects will benefit.

“Finally, a big thank you to Rufford Park Golf and Country Club, who were amazing hosts.

“We have already begun supporting local projects, so if you are looking for support please contact us at sherwoodforestrotary@yahoo.com.”

The annual District Conference was a virtual event over the internet and speakers gave Rotarians ideas on how to expand its work locally and nationally. Some members gathered at Laxton Village Hall for the event.

The Rotary club has decided not to present its Proms Concert again this year because of “a great deal of uncertainty as to indoor public performances”. However, the club is hoping to arrange a community concert early in 2022.

A change in structure means the club now meets at a variety of venues and it has become more accessible for new members. To find out more email sherwoodforestrotary@yahoo.com and you will be invited to an evening to meet

Rotarians and find out what they do. There are also opportunities for corporate membership if companies would like to become more involved in the community.

At the end of September there was a social evening for members and partners. A meal and a chat with no business on the agenda proved to be a relaxed evening for everyone. This is part of the club’s way forward and is proving very popular in the club.

President Dave Dennis added: “Hopefully we will see many of you in the run-up to Christmas and if you would like to join us please get in touch.”
