Funding boost for work of children’s heart charity

Posted onPosted on 2nd Sep

A heart disease charity based in Newark has received a £1,000 funding boost as part of Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards.

Societi Foundation is the UK Foundation for Kawasaki Disease, the leading cause of acquired heart disease in children.

Delayed treatment of Kawasaki Disease is shown to greatly increase the risk of heart damage in affected children and poor levels of awareness contribute significantly to these delays.

The £1,000 donation made as part of the Movement for Good Awards will allow Societi Foundation to produce a children’s story book for families affected by Kawasaki Disease, so that parents can more easily explain to their child and their siblings about the disease in a more child-friendly format.

The donation will enable the charity to print and distribute 200 copies of the book to families and hospitals throughout the UK.

Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards is giving away more than £1m to charities across the year and invites members of the public to nominate causes close to their hearts.

One hundred ad fifty awards of £1,000 have been donated to charities across the UK and Ireland and further winners will be revealed later in the year. Nominations can be made at https://movementforgood.com

Rachel McCormack, founder of Societi, has spoken out following the overwhelming support from the public, saying: “We are thrilled to have received a donation from Movement for Good. We know that early diagnosis and rapid treatment are the single biggest things we can do right now to change outcomes for children in the UK.
“To achieve this, we need more people to know Kawasaki Disease and for doctors to THINK Kawasaki Disease as a possible diagnosis in any child with a persistent, unexplained high fever. As a small charity, this donation will go such a long way to power our work to protect children’s hearts. We are very grateful indeed for the support.”

Mark Hews, group chief executive at Benefact Group, added: “We would like to thank every single person who took the time to nominate a good cause as part of our Movement for Good Awards.

“Benefact Group is a family of award-winning specialist financial services companies and the third largest corporate donor to charity in the UK. Owned by a charity ourselves, charitable giving is at the heart of what we do. All of our available profits go to good causes and the more the group grows, the more the group can give.

“We are delighted to be able to donate over £1m to good causes each year through our Movement for Good Awards and are grateful to all our supporters, including the customers of the trusted insurer, Ecclesiastical, and the responsible and sustainable asset manager, EdenTree.

“We know that £1,000 can make a huge difference to the work that charities do.”
Movement for Good is funded by EIO plc, part of the Benefact Group.
