Newark and Sherwood District Council will host its second Economic Growth Conference on 14 October at Southwell Racecourse.
Through keynote addresses and workshops, businesses will be provided with an insight into the future of the local economy.
Participants will also have the chance to discuss the challenges and opportunities that will arise from future trends and ask questions to industry experts that relate specifically to their businesses.
Speakers at the conference will include Will Hutton, the president of the Academy of Social Sciences and co-chair of the Purposeful Company. He is also the cofounder of the Big Innovation Centre, which aims to make the UK a global open innovation hub, to build a world-class innovation ecosystem and to re-balance and grow the UK economy.
In addition, Dr Ros Rivaz, senior independent director at Victrex plc, Computacenter plc, and Aperam SA, and former COO of Smith & Nephew, will address the skills needed to be a great strategic leader in today’s world.
Dr Ros Rivaz will also provide examples from manufacturing industry, supply chain, logistics and retail sectors.
Other presentations include ‘A614 and the Robin Hood Line Extension’ and ‘A46 and Southern Link Road’, with the focus being on opportunities available to businesses due to these major infrastructure project, as well as ‘How employers can construct a curriculum suitable for work,’ a presentation by Newark College.
During the morning, two workshops will be available for delegates to choose from. The first, ‘Shaping the Future of Logistics in the East Midlands,’ will give attendees a forum to explore and discuss opportunities around skills and innovation in the logistics sector, with expert advice and guidance from providers and leading researchers from local Universities.
The second workshop, ‘Finding Business Finance,’ is ideal for those who have reached the point where their businesses require an injection of cash because it may not always be obvious where that first port of call should be. This second session will allow businesses to receive valuable advice, pose questions and get practical tips while obtaining incisive information from IDOX / Grant Finder and D2N2 Growth Hub.
