Nominations are wanted for this year’s 4Uth Awards – the 10th celebration of the achievements of young people from all over Nottinghamshire.
Nottinghamshire County Council holds the awards every year to recognise the achievements of people aged 11-25. Previous winners have often overcome major challenges in their lives, such as bereavement, trauma and illness, and have raised thousands for charity, cared for friends and relatives, and helped others.
This year, the awards will recognise young people who have responded positively to the impact of Covid-19, helping their friends, families or their communities during the pandemic.
Nominations are welcome from anyone, including friends, family, schools, youth groups, or voluntary organisations. Anyone who lives in Nottinghamshire is eligible, if they are aged between 11-19, or up to 25 for disabled people. This year both groups and individuals can be nominated, and those nominating are being encouraged to send in short video clips talking about the person or people they think should receive an award.
Full details of eligibility, and how to send in nominations, are available at www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/4uthnominations2020. The deadline for nominations is 30th November.
Council leader Coun Kay Cutts (pictured with last year’s winners and Coun Kevin Rostance), said: “2020 has been a difficult year for many of us, as we deal with the impact of the coronavirus. I know that people across the county have risen to the challenge, supporting each other, their loved ones, and their communities.
“This year marks the 10th anniversary of our 4Uth Awards, which are our way of highlighting and rewarding the remarkable contributions made by young people in Nottinghamshire.
“Over the last 10 years we have had hundreds of nominations, telling the inspirational stories of so many young people, and it is important that we continue to celebrate their achievements.
“I’m very proud of our previous winners and I look forward to hearing more about this year’s candidates. If you know of someone who you think deserves an award, please let us know.”
One winner will be selected from the nominations for each of the seven districts in Nottinghamshire – Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Broxtowe, Gedling, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood, and Rushcliffe.
Usually winners and their family and friends are invited to attend an award ceremony at County Hall in person. This year, due to Covid-19, a virtual event will be held instead. The council intends to invite all of the 2020 winners to the 2021 event.
The winners of this year’s 4Uth Awards will be announced in January 2021.
