Children at Lovers’ Lane Primary and Nursery School in Newark celebrated their harvest festival with a special assembly and collection for a foodbank, supported by the Trussell Trust, which operates from Newark Community Support Centre on Carter Gate.
Children performed seasonal poems and sang traditional harvest songs, as well as discussing the school’s values of kindness and community. Pupils also enjoyed a special harvest festival lunch courtesy of their school kitchen.
Headteacher James Wood expressed his gratitude to the school community, saying: “Our
families have shown incredible generosity in supporting the children’s harvest festival through their donations.
“Part of our new school vision of ‘Empowering Everyday Excellence’ is to be a school ‘unique to the community that we serve’. Therefore, we wanted to give back to our community. Our Harvest celebration was a wonderful opportunity to do this and to reflect some of the values we hold to as a school of community and kindness.
“Seeing our pupils lead with confidence and compassion, while supporting the Trussell Trust, shows the kind of excellence we strive to empower every day.”
