Christmas lights switch-on goes virtual

Newark’s Christmas lights switch-on event in the Market Place, which was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic, can still be attended… virtually

Newark Town Council, Newark and Sherwood District Council, Radio Newark and retailers have put together an online show, which can be viewed from 4pm on Sunday at www.facebook.com/newarkroyalmarket

The video will be streamed on Facebook Live, allowing viewers to send in Christmas messages and interact in real time.

Radio Newark will also be broadcasting the event from 4pm.

The one-hour festivities will include songs by vocalist Matt Shephardson, retailers performing Twelve Days Of Christmas, school choirs, Christmas messages and the switch on of the Christmas lights by Newark Town Mayor Irene Brown.
