Homebuilder answers call for help from village hall

Posted onPosted on 23rd Jan

Homebuilder David Wilson Homes has repaired potholes in a village hall car park in Newark after an appeal from a concerned resident.

The company is building properties close to Newark in Fernwood Village and the volunteer at Claypole Village Hall, which celebrated its centenary last year, asked for help.

David Wilson Homes co-ordinated with its contractor, Griptrak, which carried out the work.

Claire Simmonds said: “We are incredibly grateful to David Wilson Homes and Griptrak for the work they completed on our car park.”

She said the hall, established in 1923, plays a vital role in the community. It hosts events, meetings, and activities, serving as a hub for both entertainment and communal gatherings.

Despite facing financial challenges, the hall underwent significant renovations in recent years, including a complete refurbishment of the main hall and the addition of a new meeting room.

But the car park presented a persistent challenge. Claire added: “We had planned and launched a big prize raffle in 2020, with the aim of raising £20,000, only to be stopped in our tracks by covid. Meanwhile, the car park was getting worse and worse.”

John Reddington, managing director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “When we learned about the challenges faced by Claypole Village Hall, we knew we had to step in and see how we could make a positive impact.

“Our collaboration with Griptrak is a testament to our commitment to supporting the communities where we build new homes.”
