Two years of support for rugby club pledged by Cameron Homes

Cameron Homes has come on board as a sponsor of Southwell Rugby Club — enabling the grass roots club to upgrade its goal posts and grounds.

The Staffordshire-headquartered five-star HBF housebuilder has signed up to be a ground sponsor for two years.

Established in 1922, Southwell Rugby Club has a thriving junior section and three senior teams, with the first team playing in the Midlands 2 East league. The senior squad is coached by former Wales and British Lions international, Andy Powell.

The club’s grounds are located just over a mile from Cameron Homes’ £19m Bramley Fields development.

Holly Strachan, field sales manager for Cameron Homes, said: “Cameron Homes is passionate about creating and supporting communities, so sponsoring this long-established rugby club, which is at the heart of the local community, perfectly aligns with our core values.

“We look forward to celebrating success with Southwell Rugby Club.”

Andrew Smith, chairman of Southwell Rugby Club, added: “The ongoing costs to upgrade our goal posts and grounds need to be funded by donations and corporate sponsorship, so when Bramley Fields opened we reached out to Cameron Homes to see if they could help us.

“We are very grateful for the £6,000 donation, which goes a long way to improving the playing experience for our senior, junior and mini squads. We’re really delighted with Cameron’s generous support for this season and next.”

The seven-acre Bramley Fields development is creating a new community of 45 energy-efficient family homes.

A children’s play area is being created as the centrepiece of the design-led development, alongside new habitats for local wildlife. Green buffer zones around the edge of the development will protect existing on-site ecology and retain and enhance local wildlife corridors. There will also be native tree and shrub planting to benefit local bird populations, with bat and bird boxes installed within the walls of new dwellings.
