Work has begun on a new development of 93 homes at Bowbridge Road, Newark.
Developed by Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA), they will be available to local people in need of affordable homes.
NCHA said the new development, designed by Pelham Architects and built by Mercers Building Solutions, reflected its continued commitment to creating homes that support wellbeing, independence, and the creation of strong neighbourhoods.
A mix of flats, family homes, and bungalows will be offered for affordable rent for people on Newark and Sherwood District Council’s housing waiting list. An additional 13 supported living homes will offer tailored accommodation for young people who need a little more help to gain essential life skills and live independently.
Coun Rowan Cozens, council deputy leader, said: “There is a real need for more housing, not just in the district but across the whole of the country. In the UK the supply of housing has not been keeping up with demand and access to housing of any type is becoming increasingly difficult for low-income households.
“The delivery of this development is a positive step towards meeting the area’s affordable housing requirements, providing additional affordable homes for the community, and offering energy-efficient homes that are cheaper to run.”
The homes will be built using traditional construction, each fitted with gas combi boilers and designed to achieve an EPC rating of B, ensuring energy-efficient, comfortable living for future residents. Every property will have access to a dedicated parking space. Completion is expected early 2027.
To mark the start of work on site, Rowan joined representatives from NCHA, Mercers Building Solutions, and Pelham Architects for a site visit.
Owned and managed by NCHA, the development is supported by funding from Homes England, through NCHA’s Strategic Partnership for 2021–2028, which aims to deliver affordable housing across the East Midlands.
