Hundreds of spectators lined the banks of the River Trent as the Newark Dragon Boat Festival returned for a sixth year, raising more than £35,000 for the Children’s Bereavement Centre and Beaumond House Hospice Care.

The festival brought together the community for a day of fun, music, food, and thrilling races on the water.

A total of 29 teams, each with 10 paddlers and a drummer, competed in a series of heats along the 200m course, ahead of a final. Mondrelog Team — taking part in the festival for the first time — were crowned champions.

Beyond the river, Riverside Park was busy with family-friendly attractions. Children enjoyed inflatables, fairground games, face painting, temporary tattoos, and a new Wipeout! experience.

Acts on the main stage included local favourites Rainmaker, Larkin Road, Matt Shephardson, Rock Choir, Justus2wo, and AJ’s School of Dance. Radio Newark’s Newark Amplified also showcased musical talent from across the area, giving a platform to emerging artists.

Katie Gibson, marketing and fundraising executive for the Children’s Bereavement Centre, said: “It was an incredible day, with hundreds lining the riverbanks to cheer on the teams.

“It was wonderful to see the community come together to support two vital local charities. These funds make a real difference for bereaved families across our county who need us most.”

Simon Machin, director of income generation at Beaumond House Hospice Care, added: “We are so grateful for the amazing support shown at this year’s festival. Every penny raised helps us continue to provide compassionate end-of-life care and support to local people and their families.

“To see so many in our community come together with such energy and generosity has been truly inspiring.”

Organisers have confirmed the event will return next year on Sunday, 13th September. For more information or to find out how to enter a team go to www.newarkdragonboatfestival.co.uk
