Live music fundraiser a high note for charity

Posted onPosted on 4th Mar

An uplifting afternoon of live music will return to Newark this year when the Nottingham Symphonic Wind Orchestra presents its annual charity concert in support of the town’s Children’s Bereavement Centre.

Music from the Movies and Musicals will take place at Newark Palace Theatre, which is providing the venue free, on Sunday, 10th May at 2.30pm.

There will be a programme celebrating some of cinema’s most iconic scores. Last year’s concert featured music from films such as Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars, and this year promises new scores from musicals.

In a change from previous years, the concert has been moved to a Sunday afternoon, with the aim of welcoming more families and younger audiences.

There will also be special guest performers from the Just Sing Choir.

Simon Gabbitas (pictured), chairman of Newark Business Club, will host the fundraiser.

Katie Gibson, of the charity’s fundraising team, said: “We are incredibly grateful for this collaboration between the wind orchestra and the Palace Theatre. The commitment shown by everyone involved means so much to the children and families we support. Events like this don’t just raise funds, they raise hope, awareness, and a sense of community for our families facing the most difficult times.”

All performers, organisers and hosts involved in the concert are volunteering their time, with 80% of all ticket sales donated directly to the Children’s Bereavement Centre, helping to ensure its services remain free for those who need them most.”

Tickets, priced £13 for adults and £8.50 for children are available at www.palacenewark.com/whats-on/instances/childrens-bereavement-centre-and-nottingham-symphonic-wind-orchestra.php
