Online pharmacy creates more jobs for coronavirus crisis

Posted onPosted on 8th Apr

Nottingham-based online pharmacy UK Meds has increased its workforce by 40% to cope with demand for its prescription-only and lifestyle products following the outbreak of coronavirus in the UK.

Despite the uncertainty sweeping the nation’s jobs positions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the business has taken on more staff to cope with its recent surge in sales.

The news comes after UK Meds reported record-breaking purchases, including sales of 1,000 bottles of hand sanitiser in just 24 hours, as well as an 8,000% increase in people buying face masks throughout February.

Established in May 2016, UK Meds offers the same genuine medications as local pharmacies, and delivers them to patients’ doors.

Joe Soiza, managing director at UK Meds, based in Castle Marina, said: “We recognise that we’re very fortunate to be thriving in this economy. Our customer base has grown exponentially over the past month, which has put us in the position to hire staff at a rapid rate in order to cope with demand.

“Our new team members have been hired to support the pharmacy side of the business and will be adhering to recent government guidelines and practising social distancing.

“We are incredibly grateful to be able to provide local people with employment opportunities at such a challenging time.”

As a family run business, UK Meds, which is regulated by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), also provides healthcare to thousands of patients across the country and has a team of UK-based prescribers, who are now working remotely.
