Businesses, schools and members of the community in Newark and Sherwood are invited to support the local charity and community hospice Beaumond House as it raises awareness of loneliness and isolation that can accompany a terminal diagnosis.
Beaumond House is presenting at Newark Business Club on Friday 1st December and is asking those in attendance to help create a sparkling sea of blue by wearing blue for the meeting.
Simon Gabbitas, chairman of Newark Business Club, said: “Newark Business Club is very much looking forward to being part of the Be Bright Blue Day for Beaumond House this year and we hope to see lots of our members in blue Christmas jumpers for our December breakfast meeting on 1st December.
“What better way to encourage a day of connectivity as part of this initiative than at our business breakfast meeting, where members and guests will network and get the opportunity to take and spread the message of the Be Bright Blue Campaign into their businesses and organisations.”
Matt Colbourne, head of Fundraising and Communications at Beaumond House added: “We’re honoured to be sponsoring the Newark Business Club and to have the opportunity to share our uplifting message with business owners across the region, especially at a time when receiving a terminal diagnosis can feel all the more cold and isolating for our community.
“Receiving a terminal diagnosis can be devastating, but our ‘Be Bright Blue’ campaign is here to show those suffering in silence and in solitude that there is a better way. It can be easy to feel blue when facing a difficult diagnosis, but we want to remind people that their community, their friends and their families are all here to support them in their time of need.
“During the winter months, loneliness can feel at its worst and most pronounced, especially with the added pressure of Christmas to contend with. So, while it may seem like a small gesture, if you could wear blue on Friday 1 December, you’ll be helping to spread a valuable message: you’re not alone and you don’t need to be.
“We’d like everyone to join in our campaign by wearing blue to events like Newark Business Club or at your place of work, business or even in your local school. Your support could mean the world to someone struggling with a terminal diagnosis and could show them that while the weather might be blue, you don’t have to be.”
Beaumond House, which provides personalised, palliative care for people in Newark & Sherwood, is dedicated to ensuring that patients live well and die with dignity and companionship – which the “Be Bright Blue” campaign is an important part of.
In addition to inviting businesses to wear blue on Friday 1 December, it is also running a ‘Bake, Donate, Nominate’ competition, inviting wannabe bakers to make a cake (or any bake of their choice) and share it on social media to be in with a chance of winning an array of succulent treats from Newark’s newest bakery The Crumbly Bun.
