Life-saving service buys new blood bike thanks to police chief’s charity’s £6,000 fundraising

Share:

Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes has received more than £6,000 from Nottinghamshire Police after officers and staff spent the past year fundraising for the charity.

The force selected Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes as its Chief Constable’s Charity in memory of Sgt Graham Saville, who died in the line of duty in August 2023 when he was struck by a train while helping a man on the tracks in Balderton.

The charity later named one of its motorcycles in his honour and now funds have been raised to support a new BMW RT1250 motorcycle for the charity’s volunteer riders.

The bike will bolster Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes’ free, out-of-hours emergency transport service for the NHS, delivering vital items including blood, plasma, medical samples and patient records between hospitals, blood banks and healthcare facilities across the county.

Chief Constable Steve Cooper recently presented the charity with a cheque and thanked everyone who helped to raise money.

He said: “Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes is close to our hearts as it provides vital emergency equipment and supplies for the NHS, but also because of its connection to Sgt Graham Saville through the motorcycle named in his memory.

“We are proud to support a charity that plays such an important role in helping save lives across Nottinghamshire.”

The chairman of Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes, John McFadden, said: “Thank you, on behalf of everyone at Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes, we are overwhelmed by this generous donation from Nottinghamshire Police.

“We are a small charity, but these funds have gone on to buy a new motorbike which will help provide lifesaving emergency transport on behalf of the NHS in Nottinghamshire. Thank you for all your help and support.”
