There is one space remaining on an Arctic Wilderness Expedition that is raising funds for Beaumond House Hospice Care.
The challenge in Lapland will take place between 8th and 14th March 2025, with participants cross-country skiing and wild camping completely off the trails in east Lapland.
The group of six will be completely self-contained, with each person pulling a sled laden with approximately 30kg of supplies and equipment for the duration of the challenge.
With a variety of cost and fundraising options, the expedition is designed for novices and is exclusive to Beaumond House.
Paddy Whur, one of the participants taking part, who is building on his extensive previous fundraising efforts for Beaumond House, said: “I’m so looking forward to taking on this tremendous challenge to raise vital funds for Beaumond House.
“The charity is very close to my heart, because my good friend had the benefit of its care at the end of her life.
“I’ve seen first-hand the work everyone puts in to provide the support they do and I was blown away by how much is needed in donations to allow the charity to provide its services. That’s why I do so much fundraising for them — I’ve raised around £17,000 for the charity so far.”
As part of his previous fundraising efforts, Paddy has completed a Kilimanjaro trek, as well as completing the National Three Peaks and Yorkshire Three Peaks in a day.
As a previous captain of Norwood Park Golf Club, Southwell, he also appointed Beaumond House as one of the club’s charities of the year.
Louise Sinclair, chief executive of Beaumond House Hospice Care, added: “We’re so grateful to all the participants who’ve signed up for the Arctic Wilderness Expedition and would encourage anyone interested to sign up as soon as possible, to secure the final space.
“Fundraising efforts like this are vital to the survival of Beaumond House. It costs around £2.2m every year for us to deliver our services and, as hospice care isn’t fully funded by the NHS, around £1.6m of this must be raised through donations, shops, and local businesses.
“The funds that we receive from the expedition will be invaluable as we continue to give our patients dignity and independence when every moment matters.”
