Could you walk on fire for your local hospice?

Posted onPosted on 1st Oct

Daredevils are being urged to take up a challenge to walk on fire at Southwell Rugby Club’s annual Bonfire Night party celebration on November 5.

The challenge will raise money for Beaumond House Hospice Care, Newark, which looks after 550 patients and their families each year.

One of the first to sign up was 31-year-old Matt, a senior software engineer. He said that he was looking forward to meeting the challenge head-on.

“A fire walk has always been on my bucket list so I can’t wait to achieve this,” he added. “To do it at a bonfire night with my friends and family watching is an added bonus. Once it’s over I am looking forward to a hotdog.”

He plans to encourage his family and friends to sponsor him and is also going to do a raffle and pub quiz to get some extra funds for Beaumond House.

Training for the fire walk starts on the night at 5pm and will take about 90 minutes to two hours.

While that is under way the rest of the team, who are qualified firewalking instructors, will prepare the fire.

The fire walk will be start at 7.15pm and is set to finish at 7.45pm.

Entry costs £30 and those taking part are asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £70. You must be 18 or over to take part.

All participants will receive free entry to the bonfire night for themselves and a guest.
