Lucy’s big leap for children’s charity

Posted onPosted on 13th Jul

A STORE manager at a Newark opticians will be taking to the skies in August before jumping out of a plane at 14,000 feet to raise money for the Newark-based Children’s Bereavement Centre.

Lucy Silver, who works at the locally owned and run Specsavers store on Middlegate, will complete a tandem skydive at Langar Airfield in support of the local charity, which provides vital support to children, young people, and families coping with bereavement and terminal illness.

“I am excited — and a little nervous — to be taking on this challenge,” she said. “Over the past year I’ve made it a personal goal to do something charitable whenever I can, and this felt like the perfect opportunity to support a cause that means so much to us at Specsavers Newark.

‘The skydive also marks a big milestone in my own health and fitness journey — and I wanted to celebrate that by doing something completely out of my comfort zone.

“Our clinical co-ordinator, Julia Hawkins, completed a skydive for the centre last year, and she really inspired me to do the same.

“The charity does such important work supporting children and young people who have experienced the loss of someone special. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help them continue to provide care, comfort, and support to families when they need it most.”

Last year the Children’s Bereavement Centre supported more than 1,550 children, young people, and adults across the region, with demand for its services continuing to grow.

Specsavers Newark director Neil Popat said: “Lucy has shown incredible dedication/ We’re all incredibly proud and can’t wait to cheer her on.

“The Children’s Bereavement Centre is a charity that is very close to our hearts, and we’d love the local community to get behind this challenge and help raise as much money as possible.”
