Beaumond House Hospice in Newark is taking part in the Big Give again this year.
The 2025 campaign, Give the Gift of Hospice Care This Christmas, will launch on Tuesday, 2nd December and run for seven days.
Many patients face spending their final Christmas in hospital, away from home. With the community’s support, Beaumond House can offer patients the choice to spend their final days either in the Hospice’s In-patient unit or in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by loved ones and supported by the hospice’s dedicated team.
The hospice has secured match funding and set a target of £12,500 to support patients such as John, who Beaumond House cared for last Christmas.
During his final days, John shared: “I became unwell just before Christmas and accepted a bed in the Hospice or the top-class hotel (my words). It made me realise how difficult I’d found the nights, being frightened about falling or becoming ill and there being no one to help. This was the best Christmas I’ve had since my wife died.”
Jade Davies, Registered Nurse at Beaumond House, added: “Christmas at the hospice means sharing warmth, calm, and a little joy with people who are facing their most delicate moments. For me, it’s a reminder that being present, kind, and human is the most meaningful gift I can give.”
As in previous years, donations must be made through the Big Give campaign platform, where every donation will be doubled, meaning supporters can make twice the impact at no extra cost.
Last year, Beaumond House Hospice Care raised an amazing £13,900 through The Big Give Christmas Challenge, a match-funding opportunity that made a meaningful and lasting difference. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses and the community, the hospice was able to purchase a specialist cuddle bed for our In-patient unit.
The bed is now in place and being used by patients. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the profound impact it has had, not only on our patients but also on their families. This would not have been possible without the support of local business and our local community.
