Coach company Marshalls of Sutton on Trent became last-minute heroes for a group of Magnus Church of England Academy students setting off on a residential school trip to Barcelona.
Students were due to be collected by a coach company at 01:30 am for their trip to the airport. But not only did the coach not arrive, but the company could not be reached for any updates.
With the trip in jeopardy, hope came in the form of a quick-thinking parent who knew someone at Marshalls of Sutton on Trent Ltd.
Academy principal Anna Martin said: “We are incredibly grateful to Marshalls of Sutton on Trent Ltd for saving the day and the trip. When the original coach failed to arrive, they stepped in at the last minute and ensured our students and staff made it to the airport safely and in time for their flight.
“They were amazing. After all, where else can you get a coach at 2 am and at such short notice? We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the parent who helped turn an upsetting situation into a successful start to our trip.”
Marshalls posted about the event on its social media, saying that as members of the Guild of British Coach Operators, they are bound by the code of standards to provide clear lines of communication, including a dedicated on-call number in case of out of hours emergencies.
The post goes on to say: “Even though we arrived well after the original planned pickup time,
we still got the school party to the airport in time for their flight.”
