Andrew Dames, who is walking from Shetland to London, wants the Government to stop using North Sea fossil fuels and convert to renewable energy.

“Fuel poverty and effects of climate, moors fires for example, are very much on people’s minds at the moment,” he said. “Focusing on developing renewables brings jobs and addresses the spiralling costs of electricity and gas which are currently so dependent on foreign oil and gas.  The London Supreme Court judgment that tertiary emissions must be taken into account when issuing new oil licences is the first serious step to increasing commitment to the UK renewables industry.

“This is vital if ordinary people are going to have a chance to access affordable energy and live in a sustainable climate.”
