Posted onPosted on 16th Oct

Community groups, tenants and leaseholders can apply for up to £1,000 through Newark and Sherwood District Council’s 2024 – 2025 Community Chest scheme. The scheme helps to support and fund local projects.

The Community Chest can be used to support a range of projects that will specifically help improve the lives of tenants and residents, including projects with the aim of:

  • Increasing the wellbeing and mental health of tenants and leaseholders,
  • Supporting tenants into education, learning and volunteering opportunities,
  • Resolving any community issues,
  • Reducing anti-social behaviour,
  • Improving safety and security measures,
  • Tackling issues relating to bins, litter and dog fouling,
  • Helping  local groups or individuals.

Newark and Sherwood District Council has been running its Community Chest scheme for four years.

Awards can be made up to £1,000. For more detailed information and to apply, go to the council at https://www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/community-chest/ or contact the Tenant Engagement Team via email on getinvolved@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk or by calling 01636 650 000.

The Community Chest is open for new applications from tenants, leaseholders, and community groups with this round closing on 31st October.

Coun Lee Brazier, portfolio holder for Housing at the council, said: “I am really pleased and excited that we are able to launch another round of the Community Chest scheme.

“I recognise the immense benefit that this scheme has had over the last couple of years, and I have personally seen how it has helped to bring communities together whether it’s by providing funding for Chatty Benches in Farnsfield, a Magician event at Gladstone House, Newark or putting raised beds and a composter scheme in at Coghill Court in Southwell.

“I encourage tenants, and those involved in any groups who have a project that would benefit up to £1000 of funding, to please consider applying to the scheme or speaking to our Tenant Engagement team.”
