10th anniversary for Southwell Music Festival

Share:

Southwell Music Festival is returning over August Bank Holiday weekend (23rd to 25th) for a 10th anniversary — celebrating the town and music.

Among the highlights is tenor Mark Padmore, the festival’s first artist-in-residence, performing at several concerts.

These include a Saturday afternoon English Song Recital, where he will perform a selection of English songs from composers old and new.

On the Sunday evening, the Festival Voices and Festival Sinfonia will come together to perform Mozart’s Requiem.

The concert will open with the world premiere of a new work by composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad and poet Kate Wakeling. Specially commissioned by the festival to mark the anniversary year, With What Sudden Joy features the words of Southwell residents and schoolchildren, who were asked to share their personal perspectives on the power of music.

Fans of opera and musicals can experience a showstopper on the Saturday at A Night At The Opera! concert, while the Musical Picnic is back for a second year at the minster’s Palace Gardens with free music, workshops and fun for all.
