Coronation fun for all ages is being offered at the National Civil War Centre on Saturday, 6th May.
The centre’s monthly Family Saturday event is getting a royal makeover with activities throughout the galleries.
Visitors can decorate coronation cookies, adding icing and sweets to make a crown fit for a gingerbread king!
There will also be a new family-friendly tour of the museum, themed around cavalier Prince Rupert, the nephew of King Charles I who stayed in Newark in the 1600s. Children and adults can learn how soldiers fought on horseback and hear stories of Rupert’s ‘magical’ pet dog.
The centre has recently introduced free entry for all Newark and Sherwood residents and there’ll be no extra charge to take part in the Family Saturday fun, running from 10am to 5pm on the day.
Families who’ve enjoyed visits to the centre and its events are being encouraged to consider nominating it for the Family Friendly Museum Awards in the Best Small Museum category. Run by the Kids in Museums organisation, the awards celebrate museums, galleries and heritage attractions that go the extra mile to provide an excellent family friendly experience.
