After a successful debut last year which saw more than 4,000 visitors, Newark Castle will again be hosting a free Medieval Fun Day.

On Saturday, 1^st April, from 10am to 4pm, the castle will host a variety of activities taking visitors 800 years back in time to the castle’s medieval heyday.

There’ll be chances to try out medieval skills like having a go at archery, going to jester school to learn plate spinning and juggling, and playing the role of medieval invader by using a trebuchet. There will be performances in the Castle Gatehouse from Robin Hood, Friar Tuck and the monk who cured King John.

A dragon, knight and costumed performers will also roam the grounds.

Carys Coulton-Jones, business manager for Heritage and Culture at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “After this event proved so popular last year, we wanted to bring it back for local families to enjoy another slice of medieval life at the castle. It’s wonderful seeing this beautiful landmark being enjoyed and we’re looking forward to bringing more events to its grounds in the coming years as we work towards the Castle Gatehouse development.”
