Choose films to showcase Newark’s diversity

Posted onPosted on 12th Jan

A programme of films is set to reflect local communities over the next few months and the National Civil War Centre is asking for the public’s help in deciding what to show.

Taking place between February and March, the ‘Season of You and Me’ will showcase films representative of Newark’s diversity and hopes to also engage Polish residents by featuring a selection of films from Poland with English subtitles.

Two surveys have been launched for members of the public to get involved and help to curate a shortlist of films. One is in English and offers a variety of largely independent films to choose from, both in English and foreign languages. The second is in Polish and asks for suggestions of favourite films from the country.

The screenings, set to take place at the National Civil War Centre’s Tudor Hall, have been made possible with support from Film Hub Midlands through funds from the National Lottery.

Coun Rhona Holloway, portfolio holder for Economic Development and Visitors at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “Our district has such wonderfully diverse residents and hopefully everyone will find something to relate to within the excellent films on offer. It’s a fantastic initiative to have the programme curated by the community and I’m looking forward to seeing which titles the public choose and to enjoying them over the next few months.”

The surveys are now open and can be found at www.nationalcivilwarcentre.com/seasonofyouandme. Members of the public have until Monday 23 January to select their favourite films and screenings will begin the following month.
