The grounds of Newark Castle are set to host another season of outdoor theatre this summer with six shows across July and August.
Gripping thriller The 39 Steps will start the entertainment on Tuesday, 25th July as Jonathan Goodwin stars in John Buchan’s tale.
The theme of classic literature continues throughout the programme with Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility brought to life by Chapterhouse Theatre Company on Wednesday, 2nd August, a Sherlock Holmes mystery in The Sign of Four on Thursday, 10th August and Oscar Wilde’s comedy The Importance of Being Earnest on Wednesday, 30th August.
There’s family fun too with pantomime adventure The Little Mermaid on Wednesday, 16th August and Shakespeare, with Illyria presenting Twelfth Night on Tuesday, 22nd August.
Coun Paul Peacock, leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “Newark Castle is a dramatic location in its own right so hosting these performances here is a special way for our residents to both engage with culture and to celebrate this important monument. The town is packed with great eateries and delis for picnics too so visitors will find it easy to make a night or day out of it, supporting our brilliant local businesses as well enjoying entertainment in a unique and impressive setting.”
