Two Newark charities are to benefit from a reverse Advent calendar idea.
National Trust’s The Workhouse in Southwell is calling for support for its appeal to help Baby Basics Newark and Sutton, and also Newark Emmaus Trust.
The reverse Advent calendar flips the traditional idea of receiving gifts and instead is asking people to donate essential items or small treats.
Items most needed include: For Baby Basics — newborn essentials such as nappies, baby wipes, blankets, maternity pads, and Moses baskets. For Newark Emmaus Trust — pampering gifts and practical items including socks, toiletries, slippers, and small photo frames.
Donations can be dropped off at the visitor reception building at The Workhouse, next to the car park, on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10.30am to 3pm, up to 21st December.
Festive highlights at the visitor attraction include a daily Christmas Pudding Trail, where families are invited to find ingredients for a traditional Victorian Christmas pudding, and Christmas Celebration Day on Saturday, 13th December, when there will be performances by The Pauper Choir, storytelling with Tales from The Workhouse, folk dancing, family crafts, and festive treats in the café.
