Reawakened church wins two top awards

Share:

Newark Parish Church won two accolades at the prestigious RICS Awards for its reawakening project.

St Mary Magdalene Church won in both the Heritage Project and Project of the Year categories.

It said the success was a testament to the many talented people who worked to repair the Grade 1 Listed building, and regenerate the Medieval Church for a 21st Century community.

The repair work, externally and internally, removed the results of water ingress the building suffered from, which had place it on to the Heritage at Risk register of Historic England initially.

After the careful repair of roofs, masonry, rainwater goods as well as internal ceiling, walls, floors, and joinery, the building was remove from the list.

Carefully designed modern additions such as warm flexible meeting rooms and a café, as well as other facilities, has ensured the continued use of the building for future generations.

The RICS UK Awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction, and infrastructure, recognising outstanding achievement, teamwork and companies.
Newark will now represent the region at the UK Grand Final on 22nd October.
