Palace panto returns with purr-fect new title

Posted onPosted on 30th Jun

Panto is making a triumphant return to the Palace Theatre Newark this Christmas — and just like a fabulous panto dame, it has had a makeover in the form of a title change.

This year, instead of visiting Snow White’s forest, theatregoers will be taken on a rags to riches adventure with Dick Whittington And His Cat.

Palace Theatre manager Carys Coulton-Jones said: “We can guarantee that this change won’t see any difference in the quality of the show, which will still have all the ingredients for panto magic from our brilliant new and award-winning panto partners, Jordan Productions.

“Vaccination uptake is very encouraging for the autumn season. However, it’s important that our plans are robust, taking into account the possibility of any restrictions being in place ahead of panto season, which might impact rehearsals.

“Dick Whittington And His Cat allows much better flexibility for this than Snow White, largely due to the number of young performers required to be in the show.”

People booking tickets have been reminded that they can be swapped to next year or refunded if coronavirus restrictions change.

Chris Jordan, from Jordan Productions, said: “We are so pleased to finally be able to bring our magical production of Dick Whittington and his Cat to the beautiful Palace Theatre.

“We are really looking forward to working with the theatre’s team and being able to celebrate Christmas properly once again with the return of spectacular live pantomime for the whole family.”

Dick Whittington And His Cat will transport audiences from the streets of London on a voyage across seven seas to Morocco with a colourful cast of characters, from the witty Dick Whittington and his acrobatic cat to Sarah the Cook and her wayward son, Idle Jack.
