Notts police to feature in national TV documentary

Posted onPosted on 9th Nov

High-speed pursuits, armed policing operations and expert canine tracking skills will be showcased in a national TV show featuring Nottinghamshire Police.

Channel 5’s Police Interceptors goes out on the road and in the heart of the action with officers on the front line – predominantly with the force’s Operational Support team, but also other areas of the force including the Knife Crime Team and Operation Reacher teams.

The first episode in three series of the weekly primetime programme – narrated by Cold Feet actor John Thomson – will be aired at 8pm today (Monday, 9 November).

It features a high-speed chase on the M1, a drugs warrant in a warehouse and a drink-drive crash, among other incidents.

Chief Constable Craig Guildford said Police Interceptors would give the public the chance to see ‘behind the scenes’ of some of Nottinghamshire’s most dramatic police incidents and get a real sense of the hard work, dedication and tenacity that goes into keeping Nottinghamshire safe.

“Police Interceptors is a brilliant family TV show that really gets to the heart of what some of our teams do on a daily basis to help keep the public safe – as well as giving a fascinating glimpse of some of the real people behind the uniform and how they face challenging incidents both individually and as a team,” he said.

“The documentary team has done a fantastic job of encapsulating the incredible work of the Operational Support team – which includes our armed response teams, our dogs unit and our roads policing team. The show also features the force’s Tactical Support Group team whose skills include advanced entry to properties and specialist search, as well as the Knife Crime Team and Operation Reacher teams.

“I would urge people to tune in each week at 8pm from Monday. There’s some really fascinating incidents and first class policing showcased, as well as some of the more personal side of working for the police service.

“I would like to think it will help people in the community understand the breadth of work that our officers do and possibly inspire some new local recruits to come and work for us in the future.”

The series has been filmed by documentary-makers Raw Cut.

John Everett, series producer for Police Interceptors, said: “Police Interceptors is one of Britain’s best-loved shows and aims to give viewers a feel of what it’s really like to be a police officer in modern Britain.

“The men and women of Nottinghamshire Police have been a privilege to work with and we are extremely grateful they allowed us to film them on duty, often in highly stressful situations, as they strive to make the county safe.”

John Thomson, well-known for his parts on Cold Feet and the Fast Show, has lent his recognisable voice to the show as he narrates the action and interactions involving the Nottinghamshire Police officers.

He said: “It’s been a pleasure to voice the latest series of Police Interceptors and see how well Nottinghamshire’s finest serve and protect the public.”
