Nominations open for community and sports awards

The Newark and Sherwood Community and Sports Awards, to be held on 20th September at The Renaissance at Kelham Hall, are accepting nominations until 6th July.

Last year 12 winners were awarded for their work in the community and sports, when Sherwood was included for the first time.

Newark and Sherwood District Council said it has worked closely with Active4Today to incorporate more sport categories.

Suzanne Shead, director of Housing Health and Wellbeing at the council, said: “Our district is full of amazing individuals who do great things in our communities. Whether it be helping neighbours in an emergency, working as backroom staff for a sports club or inspiring others to contribute to the area, there’s so much to celebrate.

“Often these individuals do not get the recognition they deserve so this award ceremony is the perfect opportunity to say thank you to those that deserve it.”

Nominations can be made here. Categories for awards include:

Business Commitment to the Community (Sponsored by Newark College), Young Person of the Year, Citizen of the Year (Sponsored by Ann et Vin), Community Champion of the Year (Sponsored by Harworth Group), Community Group of the Year (Sponsored by Bakkavor), Education Provider of the Year (Sponsored by Elements Green), Courage and Bravery Award (Sponsored by Rensaissance at Kelham Hall), Emergency Services and Armed Forces Award (Sponsored by Motorfinity), Creating Change for Sport and Physical Activity Award (Sponsored by Active4Today), Sports Team of the Year, Sports Individual of the Year (Sponsored by Smiths Timber), Lifetime Commitment Award (Sponsored by Radio Newark), Irene Sendler Humanitarian Award (Sponsored by Polish Cultural Institute).
