About Newark Book Festival
Newark Book Festival is a literature Festival that takes place in July in a range of beautiful historic venues across Newark on Trent in Nottinghamshire, including the Ballroom in the Town Hall, Buttermarket, Newark Palace Theatre, Castle, River Cruises, Cafe’s, the Library, St Mary Magdalene Church, the Market Place and the National Civil War Centre. From events for families to reading groups, author panels, walks, poetry, workshops and debates there is something for everyone to enjoy whilst exploring our wonderful venues, history and stories, not to mention taking time out to shop too!
The Festival is a not for profit organisation reliant on sponsorship, donations and grants to thrive and grow. In addition to the core Festival, we run a Festival Friends membership scheme and event programme throughout the year, a new for 2020 online programme and a schools’ education literacy programme.
Each year we choose a different theme to explore and connect to, covering all genres, for all ages, the programme always celebrates Nottinghamshire’s literary and heritage stories. The Festival includes both ticketed events and free events, alongside a Literature Village in Newark Market Place where you can pick up your Festival bag and browse antiquarian book stalls, meet authors, reading groups, writing groups, craft makers and literary bakes. The festival also includes trails, poems, street theatre and crafts workshops for all the family.
The festival will fire your imaginations, challenge and inspire you and present the very best in literature and the arts.
