Newark and Sherwood District Council extends free parking

Posted onPosted on 16th Jun

Residents in Newark and Sherwood are being encouraged to take advantage of free parking to support the reopening of town centres.

Currently Newark and Sherwood District Council is offering unlimited free parking across all its pay and display car parks until the end of June as it welcomes shoppers back to its high streets.

In addition, from 1 July to 31 August, shoppers will be able to get two hours free parking in all district council car parks by pressing the parking machine ticket button and displaying the ticket in their vehicle.

Free evening parking is also being offered at London Road, Appleton Gate and the Town Wharf car parks in Newark. Customers are asked to check car park tariff boards for more information.

Ticket machines will be cleaned regularly every day and signage will be put up advising motorists of the new parking measures and reminding them to maintain social distancing.

Coun David Lloyd, leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “We hope that extending the period we are suspending car parking charges for all district council car parks will encourage more residents to support our local businesses and visit the town centre now non-essential shops have re-opened again to the public.

“The reopening of these shops has been successful and we want to reassure residents that we have several measures in place to ensure the safety of them and their families. We look forward to welcoming everyone back.”
