National Civil War Centre benefits from national arts charity funding

Posted onPosted on 23rd Sep

The National Civil War Centre, Newark, is piloting a new programme for schools thanks to a £40,000 grant from the Art Fund – a national fundraising charity for the arts.

The Respond and Reimagine grants programme was Art Fund’s response to the crisis facing museums because of the coronavirus pandemic and the National Civil War Centre was one of the recipients of a grant.

The money has allowed the centre to adapt its schools learning programme to offer film, objects travelling via loan boxes, 3D printed artefacts and live streamed sessions and workshops.

New activity boxes can be used in school to enhance a visit to the centre, or on their own for schools unable to visit.

The boxes contain genuine and replica artefacts that pupils can handle, activities that classes can do together in school and access to videos designed to bring objects to life in greater detail.

Schools are visiting the centre on Mondays and Tuesdays, when it is closed to the general public.
